From Mamma Mia! to Walking on Sunshine

Walking on SunshineThe first of the summer feel-good films hit my in-box earlier today and it gave me a small case of deja-vu.

Reading the synopsis a film jumped straight to mind. That being Mamma-mia!, the global hit from 2008. After watching the trailer for Walking on Sunshine it does seem that it’s the same film but using classic hits from the 80s instead of ABBA songs crowbarred into the plot.

With a cast of no-names, a comedienne that you have heard off, and someone who won a talent contest on TV, Leona Lewis, don’t expect it to be the same extravaganza or money maker as this film seems to be ripping off.

On the plus side, the soundtrack is an epic selection of the best music from that decade. Songs that I still hum and know the words to 25 years, or so, after they were in the charts.

Songs such as Human League’s ‘Don’t You Want Me Baby’, Madonna’s ‘Holiday’, Cyndi Lauper’s ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’, and Wham’s ‘Wake Me Up Before You Go Go’ to name but a few. There are more in the above trailer. Just try and name them all from the above trailer.

The directors come from the StreetDance series, Max & Dania. The series that is to dance that The Fast And The Furious is about car driving.

It looks like a fun film to see but don’t expect that much in way of plot as it’s just a selection of classic 80s pop tunes linked together by some people speaking. A will she, won’t she type of film that will, no doubt, have a “happily ever after” ending.

Not only that, I have been sent over the first set of images. For some reason they were so big that my computer was having issues opening them!
