Pathe have announced that they will release THE DUKE on 25 February 2022, at cinemas across the UK.
Directed by the late Roger Michell, the comedy drama stars Oscar-winners Jim Broadbent and Helen Mirren.
THE DUKE is a funny and moving true story that celebrates a man who was determined to change the world and save his marriage. In 1961, Kempton Bunton, a 60-year-old taxi driver, stole Goya’s portrait of the Duke of Wellington from the National Gallery. It was the first and only theft in the Gallery’s history. Kempton sent ransom notes promising to return the painting if the government invested more in care for the elderly. What happened next is the stuff of legend…
THE DUKE was selected for the Telluride Film Festival in 2020 and its world premiere took place at the Venice Film Festival that same year where it received critical acclaim.
The film was written by Richard Bean & Clive Coleman and produced by the Nicky Bentham. The Executive Producers are Cameron McCracken and Jenny Borgars for Pathé, Andrea Scarso for Ingenious Media, Hugo Heppell for Screen Yorkshire, Peter Scarf and Christopher Bunton.
