Aftersun is coming home

MUBI, the theatrical distributor and global curated film streaming service is delighted to announce the DVD and Blu-ray release for Charlotte Wells’ Academy Award – and BAFTA-nominated Aftersun on 20 February 2023.

Aftersun won two awards at the London Critics’ Circle Film Awards last night, with Charlotte Wells picking up Breakthrough British/Irish Filmmaker and Frankie Corio taking home Young British/Irish Performer.

Aftersun is also nominated for four BAFTA Awards including Outstanding British Film; Outstanding Debut by a British Writer for Charlotte Wells; Paul Mescal for Leading Actor and Casting for Lucy Pardee. Paul Mescal’s performance is also nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role at this year’s 95th Academy Awards.

Charlotte Wells won the French Touch Prize of the Critics Jury at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival and the film also took home Best British Independent Film at the 2022 British Independent Film Awards, with Charlotte Wells also winning Best Director, Best Screenplay and the Douglas Hickox Award.

At a fading vacation resort, 11-year-old Sophie treasures rare time together with her loving and idealistic father, Calum. Twenty years later, Sophie’s tender recollections of their last holiday become a powerful and heartrending portrait of their relationship.
