Pedro Almodóvar’s STRANGE WAY OF LIFE is coming to MUBI

MUBI, the global film distributor, streaming service and production company has announced that Pedro Almodóvar’s critically-acclaimed, short film Strange Way of Life will be available to stream exclusively on MUBI in the UK and Ireland from 20 October.

Directed by Pedro Almodóvar (Parallel Mothers, All About My Mother), presented by Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello and produced by El Deseo, Strange Way of Life stars Ethan Hawke (First Reformed, Before Trilogy) and Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us, The Mandalorian).

Filmed in the Tabernas desert, in Almeria, this story about two gunmen that reunite after twenty-five years, features music by Alberto Iglesias and costume design by Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello, who also acts as associate producer of the project. The cast includes the young talents Jason Fernández, José Condessa, George Steane and Manu Ríos, along with actors such as Pedro Casablanc and Sara Sálamo.

Strange Way of Life received its World Premiere at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, and is Almodovar’s second English language short film, following 2020’s The Human Voice, which starred Tilda Swinton.

After 25 years apart, rancher Silva rides a horse across the desert to visit his old friend Jake, the sheriff of Bitter Creek. What follows is an evening of shared intimacy, reminiscing and reconciliation. However, the following day, the revelation of both men’s connections to a local crime suggest there is more to their meeting than a trip down memory lane.
