NOBU – The story of culinary legend is plated up in a new documentary

The Movie Partnership is excited to announce that the acclaimed intimate documentary Nobu will be coming to digital platforms from 18th May.

Nobu celebrated its World premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, where it received critical acclaim, with Awards Radar calling the film “a tasty look at a very inventive Sushi Chef” and MovieWeb going on to praise it as “a fascinating portrait…”

Nobu examines culinary legend Nobuyuki Matsuhisa’s empire, offering an intimate portrait of a man who has redefined global gastronomy alongside his business partners Robert De Niro and Meir Teper.

The film grants unprecedented access into Nobu’s world, revealing the alchemy and precision behind his signature dishes, and the inspirations behind his innovations that revolutionised tradition-bound Japanese cuisine.

Excited about the upcoming release, Chef Nobuyuki Matsuhisa said “This film is very personal for me. Matt has done a great job of telling my story, not just of my journey as a chef but also as a person. Everything I have built has come from perseverance, passion, and the people who believed in me along the way.”

Speaking on his process of working with the iconic chef Director Matt Tyrnauer said, “I was fascinated by Nobu’s creativity and his innovation, and figuring out how to show his process became a very interesting challenge for the film. While making the movie, I was often reminded of the film I made about Valentino (Valentino: The Last Emperor)—another master of his field at the top of his game. Just as I became fascinated with the process of making haute couture, I wanted to understand the art of the sushi chef, the way Nobu practices the art, and what was behind his inspiration to reform a very traditional cuisine.
