They call football the beautiful game, but a new global survey has revealed British men and women would rather score in the bedroom than see their team win on the pitch.

With 2026’s biggest football event kicking off in just two months’ time and new movie Balls Up launching on Prime Video on April 15, international data collection agency Potentia Insight has surveyed over 1,400 sports and film fans around the globe to find out how they think the tournament might impact people’s sex lives.

Game On:

When the beautiful game brings two hearts together in a packed pub, British men break the ice with elaborate football puns and playful teasing—49% rely on flirty banter to break the ice. Some hopefuls take a direct approach worthy of a striker going for goal: a confident 27% skip the warm-up entirely and go straight for the mobile number, proving that sometimes the best chat-up line is simply asking to stay connected after the final whistle.

Winning Ups Your Odds

In the UK, both men and women strongly agree their team winning a game ups the chances of striking it lucky between the sheets – 87% of men and 60% of women find their partners more attractive when they are celebrating a win, and 61% of all those asked are very confident it increases their odds of a post-game de-briefing.

Home Games vs. Away Games

In a fascinating parallel to home and away fixtures, the bedroom becomes its own stadium with distinct advantages depending on the venue. A striking 54% of male fans in the UK report that their performance peaks when their team secures a home victory—perhaps drawing confidence from familiar surroundings and the comfort of their own pitch. Interestingly, 50% of female supporters also agree that passion reaches its highest levels following these wins as the thrill of triumph on home soil seemingly creates its own electric atmosphere.

What Would You Give Up?

When it comes to the ultimate match between passion on the pitch and passion in the bedroom, British fans have made their priorities crystal clear—and the beautiful game comes in second. An overwhelming 74% of men and 60% of women declared they would rather see their team lose the championship than sacrifice sex for an entire sporting season, proving that some trophies simply can’t compete with intimate connection.

Potentia Insight conducted the poll to mark the launch of Balls Up movie, launching globally on Prime Video on April 15.
