Coralie Fargeat said reacting to the news “I am so honored for The Substance to be nominated for five BAFTA awards alongside the work of some of the most inspiring talent in our global industry! This film is deeply personal and was inspired by my own desire to confront the suffocating societal expectations that are pressuring women’s bodies and to break free those constraints that have been corseting women for so long.

I have made this movie with passion, and I am deeply grateful to all who have been involved to bring it to life – from the fearless cast Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley, to our crew and producers. Thank you to the BAFTA community for having seen us and for having invited us to have a seat at this amazing table, I am so proud to be part of it and that the film can continue to grow its roots into real change.” Coralie Fargeat, filmmaker, The Substance

Andrea Arnold’s Bird, starring Nykiya Adams and Barry Keoghan, was also nominated for Outstanding British Film.
