MUBI, the global film distributor, streaming service and production company has announced the upcoming release of Sebastián Silva’s darkly funny Rotting in the Sun, which will stream exclusively on MUBI from September 15 in the US, Latin America, UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Spain and Benelux.
Directed by Sebastián Silva (The Maid, Crystal Fairy & the Magical Cactus, Nasty Baby) and produced by Jacob Wasserman (The Eyes of My Mother, Tyrel), Rotting in the Sun stars writer and social media sensation Jordan Firstman in his first leading role and Catalina Saavedra (The Maid).
Rotting In The Sun, produced by Hidden Content and The Lift, in association with Robert Pattinson’s production company Icki Eneo Arlo, Spacemaker Productions and Caffeine Post, had its world premiere at Sundance 2023 in the Premieres section. This was Silva’s fifth time back at Sundance, where he’s previously won the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize and Directing Award.
Writer-director Sebastián Silva’s Sundance hit ROTTING IN THE SUN is a darkly funny and refreshingly audacious meta-comedy that skewers the business of filmmaking and our self-obsessed culture. While unwinding at a Mexican gay beach town, depressed director Sebastián Silva meets gregarious Instagram influencer Jordan Firstman (both playing versions of themselves), and Sebastián reluctantly agrees to collaborate on an upcoming project. But when Jordan arrives back in Mexico City, Sebastián is nowhere to be found, and Jordan embarks on a wildly unpredictable, quasi-detective journey.
