Today (15th January) Netflix UK hosted a Special Screening in Burnley in anticipation of the release of BANK OF DAVE which lands on Netflix in the UK and Ireland on 16th January.
Cast and filmmakers including Chris Foggin (Director), Piers Ashworth (Writer), Piers Tempest (Producer), Lauren Cox (Co-Producer), Rory Kinnear and Jo Hartley joined Dave Fishwick and the Burnley community to celebrate the release of the film, which was part-filmed in Burnley in 2022.
This heart-warming biopic tells the true story of Dave Fishwick, a self-made millionaire who fought to set up a community bank after large-scale, elitist financial institutions failed the people in his local community in Burnley. Dave’s mission to help his neighbours survive by procuring the first banking licence to be issued in over 100 years resultantly allowed Burnley partakers to thrive.
Dave began by selling vans in Burnley: once the world’s most productive and profitable milltown, now ranking among the most deprived and neglected towns in the North of England. Dave, however, through a combination of hustle and hard work, did well for himself by lending money at reduced rates to both his customers and local businesses during the wake of the last financial crisis. After these businesses started to turnover a profit, Dave was asked to reinvest this income for them. This gives Dave an idea. Why not set up a tiny local bank that uses local money to fund local enterprises? He will call it: The Bank of Dave.
