Poltergeist Remade

I’ve learnt a new word today from this film’s synopsis. That being contemporise. I think it means remake the original but not as well as the original. You can see some of that when you watch the trailer. It has the scene that shows you that they can’t contact anyone as their mobile, cell, phones are not working correctly.

Apart from scenes like that and the modern vehicles there doesn’t seem to be much differences than the classic 1982 original. The other thing, is that they are using the cliché of 3D to improve the film in some way. How many times can you shock the audience into tedium by throwing something towards the audience in a scary way?

The major plot change seems to be that the “TV People” has been replace by a possessed toy cupboard and mainly a toy clown!

If you don’t believe me about it being very similar to the original, then just click play on the video below and watch the original film’s trailer.

Also, the film plays up the fact that Steven Spielberg does something on the film. I think they wanted you to assume that he was the director. He wasn’t – that’s Tobe Hooper.

That’s the trailer taken care off. The other thing that we were sent was the poster for the film. Another aspect of this film that just seems to rip-off the original:

Legendary filmmaker Sam Raimi (“Spider-man,” “Evil Dead”, “The Grudge”) and director Gil Kenan (“Monster House”) contemporise the classic tale about a family whose suburban home is haunted by evil forces. When the terrifying apparitions escalate their attacks and hold the youngest daughter captive, the family must come together to rescue her before she disappears forever.
