It seems that when Sony saw what 20th Century Fox did for the 2012 film Prometheus it got them thinking. Why can’t we do something as epic for Omnicorp, the evil corporation behind Robocop.
So they went away after watching that one and came back with this one. The keynote presentation at CES in 2027.
The below images sum up what is said if you can’t be bothered to click play on the above video.
All in all, a good attempt from the team behind Robocop but it doesn’t quite hit the mark compaired to Peter Weyland’s 2023 TED Talk. It’s one of thoes things that you feel it’s not right but can’t seem to figure out why not. It maybe that using the Consumer Electronics Show [CES] as the wrapper. Probably as the C is CES stands for Consumer. In other words this is for people in their homes. These people don’t need a large robot marching around their house keeping it secure. On the flip side, the show has just finished so it also seems that Sony is using the show as a springboard to keep reminding people that this could happen. I still think that a TED viral would work wonderfully with the ED-209. Even better if the robot decides to go “off script” and mow down some of the audience by accident.
In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy (Kinnaman) is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex’s life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.
