MUBI, the global distributor and curated film streaming service is pleased to announce that Alice Rohrwacher’s poetic and thoughtful short film Four Roads will be available on MUBI globally (excluding China) from 14 May 2021.
Four Roads is a heartwarming and subtle insight into life during the pandemic in the village of Quattro Strade in Tuscany. With the nature of the pandemic restricting any form of physical contact, Rohrwacher instead uses her old 16mm film camera, a few metres of expired film and a zoom lens to reach where her body can’t.
Alice Rohrwacher’s first feature film Heavenly Body premiered at the Directors’ Fortnight during the 2011 Cannes Film Festival to critical acclaim.
Her second feature film, The Wonders, won the Grand Prix at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. In the same year, she was appointed the President of the International Jury for the Luigi De Laurentiis Venice Award for a Debut Film at the 71st Venice International Film Festival.
Rohrwacher’s third film Happy As Lazzaro starring Sergi López and her sister Alba Rohrwacher premiered at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival where it won the award for Best Screenplay. Recently, Alice has directed two episodes of HBO’s TV adaptation of Elena Ferrante acclaimed novel My Brilliant Friend.
