The first post that I ever did on this blog was talking about a poster that I was sent & it was bugging me. That one involved spider-man and so does this one just over a year later.
Yesterday saw the release of three new posters for the second installment of the Amazing Spider-Man series.
I was going to do something about the posters and what could be hidden in them but then I saw this one and it got me thinking about the spider-man posters that we have seen in the past.
I’m only going to cover the films starring Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as the titular character.
So off to Google one went to discover what else was available. More specifically ones that tended to focus on spider-man’s eyes. These also had another thing in common. A reflection of either the film’s bad guy or a major plot point!
His second outing had one of the posters looking familiar
So after setting the scene, let us get going. First we have the posters from Tobey Maguire’s term as the web slinger in the 2000s version.
This one was released in 2001 and then pulled in September of that year. You may not immediately spot the reason but you probably know the reason behind it.
Here is a zoomed in part of the image that I was referring to.
Not only that, the original film had that building as a plot point for the first trailer. Using the buildings as a method of capturing some bank robbers using a helicopter to escape as you can see from this YouTube clip
Now onto his second outing.
This time we saw a remarkably familiar poster image. This time with the bad guy, Doc Ock, reflected.
With Tobey hanging up the web singers with this outing. Meeting both Venom & Sandman.
We still see eyes quite prominent in the poster but now we get both sides of Peter Parker’s ego.
This time we don’t see any of the baddies reflected apart from just New York.
Five years have now passed and a 4th Tobey Maguire film doesn’t happen because of “creative differences” saw, in 2012, a new reboot of the series with Andrew Garfield donning the suit.
Going through the motions of telling, yet again, the reasons why peter Parker becomes a super hero we then get to this one’s baddie. The Lizard aka Doc Connors.
We still have quite a wait until we see Andrew in the suit for a second time, so to finish here is the new[ish] trailer followed by the current synopsis.
