Following a triumphant UK premiere as the Closing Night Gala of Raindance Film Festival where director Kirsty Bell won Best Director – DON’T FORGET ME, the first official feature documentary about rock ’n’ roll pioneer Eddie Cochran, will open in UK cinemas from 11th September, released by Fremantle.
From Goldfinch, the Academy Award-winning producers and filmmakers behind acclaimed documentaries like Quant (Mary Quant) and Ronnie’s (Ronnie Scott). Keith Richards, Sting, Rod Stewart, Roger Daltrey, Ronnie Wood, Billy Idol, Alice Cooper, Yungblud, John Waters and more come together with Cochran’s family to tell the story of the 21 year old whose brief life helped shape the future of rock ’n’ roll.
Don’t Forget Me chronicles the extraordinary but tragically short life of rock ’n’ roll pioneer Eddie Cochran. Cochran’s influence is immeasurable. At just 21, he left behind a body of work that would inspire generations of musicians and artists. This intimate portrait weaves never before seen archival material with powerful testimonies from some of the greatest names in music and culture.
From his heartfelt devotion to his mother to his timeless music that continues to electrify stages across the world, this film explores the duality of Eddie’s life: a young man brimming with joy and possibility and an artist whose voice continues to echo long after his untimely death.
Cochran’s music shaped generations, inspiring icons across all genres from The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix to The Who and the Sex Pistols, and continues to influence today’s leading musicians. Five of his songs have been covered over 500 times by legendary artists including The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Jack White, Rod Stewart, Bruce Springsteen, Led Zeppelin, The Who, the Sex Pistols and T. Rex.
Created in partnership with the Cochran Family Estate and supported by both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Universal Music Enterprises, the documentary captures the enduring impact of Cochran’s music. Director Kirsty Bell said “It has been the deepest honour to be entrusted by Eddie Cochran’s family to tell his story. His life burned fast and bright, but the ripples of his sound reached across oceans and decades, shaping the very language of rock and roll. ‘Don’t Forget Me’ is not just the title of this film. It is Eddie’s own plea, echoed in autograph books and in the lives he touched. My hope is to bring him vividly back into the world’s consciousness, to remind us not only of what we lost, but of the brilliance he gave.”
