A hugely important and influential filmmaker Becker was much admired by his contemporaries – Jean Renor and Jean-Pierre Melville – and the proponents of the French New Wave – Jacques Rivette, Jean-Luc Godard and Francois Truffaut. A director of rare passion and invention Jacques Becker made only thirteen feature films in a relatively short period of time but his body of work contains some of the acknowledged classics of French cinema in the post-war period.

Set in Paris at the turn of the 19th Century, CASQUE D’OR follows the love affair between gangster’s moll, Marie and reformed criminal Georges Manda. When mob boss, Felix Leca, takes an active interest in their affair, an underworld rivalry ensues leading to a treacherous and tragic end.
