Almost Us the Heat, heart, and laughs in new queer romance dramedy coming home this April

Queer romantic dramedy Almost Us will be available to stream worldwide on WatchVIM from 17th April.

Acclaimed filmmaker Anthony Bawn delivers passion, politics, and piercing emotional honesty in his latest feature, Almost Us. Set against the striking desert landscape of Phoenix, AZ, the film explores what happens when desire collides with power, and when love becomes inseparable from legacy and community survival.

In Almost Us, a recovering addict, Jay, is determined to save his late mother’s community centre from demolition. His fight takes an unexpected turn when he falls for Darren, a polished corporate developer tied to the project. Mixing sharp humour, heartfelt romance, and community spirit, the film explores Black queer love, family legacy, and the messy joy of choosing authenticity in a city on the rise.

With its sensuality, wit, and emotional rawness, Almost Us expands the frame of queer storytelling beyond coming-out narratives to confront class, legacy, and community responsibility. “Queer stories aren’t just about identity,” director and star Anthony Bawn says. “They’re about power, class, and how the past complicates the future. The film asks: who gets to be free, and what systems quietly decide that?”

Starring Anthony Bawn and Adri Kennedy in the lead roles, Almost Us will launch exclusively on WatchVIM on 17th April. WatchVIM is a subscription streaming service bringing bold, queer stories to a worldwide audience.
