Film4 are delighted to announce a total of 14 nominations for the 2023 EE BAFTA Awards, for LIVING, BRIAN AND CHARLES and frontrunner THE BANSHEES OF INISHERIN, all co-financed by Film4. Film4 commissioned and developed both Oliver Hermanus’ LIVING written by Kazuo Ishiguro, as well as BRIAN & CHARLES, based on the popular short by director Jim Archer and writers David Earl and Chris Hayward. BANSHEES marks the fourth collaboration between Martin McDonagh and Film4, who supported his short film SIX SHOOTER (2004), and then backed his next three features IN BRUGES, SEVEN PSYCHOPATHS and the BAFTA and Academy Award-winning THREE BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING, MISSOURI.
Ollie Madden and Daniel Battsek, Director and Chairman of Film4, commented: “We at Film4 couldn’t be more proud of receiving 14 nominations for this year’s BAFTAs. It is wonderful to see how THE BANSHEES OF INISHERIN, LIVING and BRIAN & CHARLES have resonated so strongly with voters and audiences alike this year. These nominations are a true reflection of what we stand for at Film4, giving a voice to new filmmakers while continuing to support talent like Martin throughout their careers.”
Following its recent success at the Golden Globes (with wins for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Actor for Colin Farrell and Best Screenplay for Martin McDonagh), Film4-backed THE BANSHEES OF INISHERIN received a total of 10 nominations for Best Film, Outstanding British Film, Director and Original Screenplay for Martin McDonagh, Leading Actor for Colin Farrell, Supporting Actor nominations for both Brendan Gleeson and Barry Keoghan, Supporting Actress for Kerry Condon, Original Score and Editing.
