Vertigo Releasing is thrilled to announce that BOILING POINT has received 11 BIFA nominations this morning including Best British Independent Film, Best Director for Philip Barantini, Best Actor for Stephen Graham, Best Supporting Actor for Ray Panthaki, Best Supporting Actress for Vinette Robinson, Breakthrough Performance for Lauryn Ajufo, Breakthrough Producer for Hester Ruoff, Best Casting for Carolyn McLeod, Best Cinematography for Matthew Lewis, Best Production Design for Aimee Meek and Best Sound for James Drake. The BIFA awards take place on Sunday 5th December at Old Billingsgate.
The film is now set for a release in UK and Irish cinemas on 29th December 2021. Vertigo Releasing is also delighted to debut a world exclusive clip that features Stephen Graham, Jason Flemyng and Lourdes Faberes and captures some of the simmering tension from the ‘one-take’ film.
BOILING POINT stars BAFTA nominee Stephen Graham as a head chef pushed to his limits. The film is directed by Philip Barantini, whom Vertigo previously worked with when they released his debut feature, Villain. Barantini and writer James Cummings adapted BOILING POINT from Barantini’s BIFA-nominated short of the same name, which also starred Graham. The film is produced by Bart Ruspoli and Hester Ruoff. Jason Flemyng, Ray Panthaki, BAFTA winner Malachi Kirby and Vinette Robinson, star alongside Graham.
The film received its UK Premiere at the BFI London Film Festival on Monday 11th October at the Prince Charles Cinema with the key filmmakers and cast in attendance. This followed the World Premiere at Karlovy Vary International Film Festival back in August, where actress Vinette Robinson won a jury award for her performance. Since its debut in August the film has secured widespread critical acclaim.
BOILING POINT was a one-take production with its expected shoot schedule halved to two days, in order to complete filming before lockdown commenced. Shooting wrapped just five days before the pandemic forced the government to shut down the film industry, making it the last film to be on set in March 2020. Nearly all of the post production was completed remotely during the first lockdown.
BOILING POINT is an Ascendant Films (Villain) and Burton Fox Films production in association with Matriarch Productions, Bromantics, Alpine Films, Urban Way and Three Little Birds Pictures. The finance was provided by White Hot Productions and Samahoma Media Advisors who negotiated finance from Insight Media Fund.
BOILING POINT also marks the debut feature film of Matriarch Productions, an entertainment production company founded by actors Stephen Graham and Hannah Walters. Championing diversity and inclusivity, the company was established in 2020 with the aim of providing a much-needed platform for underrepresented voices and stories across both film in television in the UK.
