Yesterday saw the latest trailer along with the new poster. This has caused much celebration and derision between fans. It seems that everyone loves the new trailer but hates the poster.
I am one on the hate side for the poster. It just feels that the artist has been lazy and just thrown all the main characters together in some sort of random order. Add to that the orange/blue background then you can tick most of the boxes on the poster cliché list.
If the poster is anything to go by, the main focus of the film will be on Wolverine and Mistique with Patrick Stewart’s Professor X left as a bit part.
The poster does reinforce some of the themes that are covered in the trailer but makes some a little more obvious. The other is Logan talking about losing friends and a short clip of one of the X-Men seemingly getting stabbed. This may just be a bit of a red herring to get us to talk about it but, on the other hand, why not kill off some of the characters in the future. They can still appear in the bits of the film set in the past or present.
The new trailer on the other hand, is epic!
It has it all, explosions, a destroyed world and Magento and Professor x, hopefully, working together to save the world.
The supposition, made earlier, about the film’s focus on Wolverine and Mistique does seem to play out in the trailer. A lot of the time it is focused on one or the other. It does seem to hint that Mistique is ready to fall from grace and embrace her evil side. As this is another prequel to the 2000 film, X-Men, it does seem logical to show us Mistique’s fall from grace and being embraced my Magento. We will just have to wait and see how this happens from being Charles Xavier’s adoptive sister to one of the main enemies of the X-Men
Not only do we get what happens when old friends try and get back together to help save the world instead of trying to destroy it. We one side of the friendship had been. We see, briefly in the trailer, what seems to be Sentinels. This is more obvious in the poster. Look what is chasing the X-jet.
The ultimate X-Men ensemble fights a war for the survival of the species across two time periods in X-Men: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. The beloved characters from the original “X-Men” film trilogy join forces with their younger selves from “X-Men: First Class,” in an epic battle that must change the past – to save our future.
