Will Smith has joined TikTok, the leading destination for short-form mobile video, generating 1.6 million followers since joining last week. Ahead of his latest film release Gemini Man, directed by Ang Lee and out in UK cinemas October 10th, Will launched the #GeminiMan hashtag challenge inspired in a scene from the film, which the TikTok community have loved.
Since launching the challenge on October 4th over 3.9K people have taken part and it has had 29.5 million views. Thirty-five countries took part in the challenge, including the UK, France, Italy and Australia. Those who join in the challenge could also be in with a chance of winning of the 25 pairs of free film tickets courtesy of Paramount Pictures.
In the film Gemini Man, Henry (played by Will Smith) is faced with a younger, cloned version of himself, Junior (also played by Will Smith!). Henry is the world’s best assassin, able to hit a target on a moving train from 2 km away. He’s never met his match before, until he faces off with Junior, a young and powerful version of himself. In one scene, Henry and Junior meet resulting in a face-off. Junior declares, “I’m the best.” But Henry, who has him cornered, declares “You’re clearly not the best.” This scene was the source of inspiration for the hashtag challenge #GeminiMan, which encourages TikTok users to face-off against themselves!
