What happens when a pop star asks her fans to help her make an album during a world-wide pandemic? Intimate documentary Charli XCX: Alone Together reveals how the Grammy Award nominated artist created her hit album ‘how i’m feeling now’, and the global community that helped inspire it.
In 2020 Charli XCX, a pop super-star in quarantine, embarked on a whirlwind journey to write and release an album in 40 days. Opening up her songwriting to her dedicated fan base for the first time ever through a mix of Instagram Live and Zoom calls, Charli documented every stage of the album’s conception, with input and feedback from fans every step of the way.
The project tested her emotional limits but ultimately united a community of her devoted LGBTQ+ fans, and resulted in the release of Charli’s groundbreaking and critically acclaimed album, ‘how i’m feeling now’.
A fascinating insight into the creative process of one of the twenty-first century’s most celebrated artists, Charli XCX: Alone Together was an official selection at SXSW 2021 and is due to screen at BFI Flare 2022.
