“The Boy and the Heron” Emerges as a Phenomenal Success, Smashing Box Office Records in the UK.

“The Boy and the Heron,” the latest enchanting masterpiece from Studio Ghibli, has swiftly soared to unprecedented heights, establishing itself as a bona fide breakout hit. Within just four days of its release, the film became the biggest Studio Ghibli film at the UK Box Office, eclipsing the Miyazaki classic, “Spirited Away.” This is the second-highest opening of all time for a Japanese film, behind only Pokemon: The First Movie in 2000.

“The Boy and the Heron” stands as the largest Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki film ever to grace the UK Box Office, a testament to the film’s critical reception, and enduring appeal of the studio’s magical storytelling. Additionally, the film proudly claims the top spot as the biggest Elysian film at the UK Box Office, setting a new standard for the distributor.

The film has garnered a spectacular £1.79M at the UK Box Office within seven days of its release, in addition to having the highest return per screen average across the UK on the film’s opening day. This feat precedes the film’s eagerly anticipated opening on IMAX screens, scheduled for January 5. Sights are also set on the next million for the film, and further figures that spotlight an exceptionally impressive theatrical run for an independent film.

Both Japanese and English dubbed versions are available in cinemas.
