A year of anniversaries

It’s a strange year this one. If you ignore all of the stupidity that is going on in America and the UK. What I mean is there are some quite significant anniversaries for some classic films. This list goes back 60 years to 1958 and stops at 1998.

They are all classic films that cover a variety of genres. From thrillers via science fiction to laugh out loud comedies.  You can sing along to some or hope that the hero will succeed and the baddies will get what they deserve.

So let’s start this look back down memory lane with one of the great films from one of the great directors of the middle of the 20th century, Alfred Hitchcock.

60th Anniversary

Vertigo

Jumping forward to 1968. A chaotic year for the world. There were a couple of things that helped. One was the release of one of the greatest science fiction films of all time.

50th Anniversary

2001: A Space Odyssey

Another 10 years closer to us saw two polar opposite films but both loved by their fans. One a musical and the other about the things that war can do to someone.

40th Anniversary

Grease

The Deer Hunter

We’re now in the 80s and this time we see teen comedies and one of the great “Christmas films”. Even if that one doesn’t really need that as a plot at all.

30th Anniversary

Beetlejuice

Heathers

Die Hard

Finallay, we’re now about to hit the end of the 20th century with two great comedies of the year.

20th Anniversary

The Big Lebowski

Wag The Dog

Most of the films on the above list are enjoying their chance to shine again because of the great distributor Park Circus.
