The Grandmaster fights into cinemas

After almost a decade in production, the new film from Wong Kar Wai is about to become reality and hit UK cinema screens. Six years of research went into the film and then another three in making the film. The film’s trio of lead actors spent years training in king fu to prepare for the film. That helped bring the authenticity of not only the era but also of martial arts that is the centerpiece of the film.

With legendary fight choreographer, Yuen Wo Ping. He is best known for the fight scenes in such classic films as The Matrix, Kill Bill and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

The film features virtuoso performances from those at the film.s heart: With Tony Leung, Ziyi Zhang and Chang Chen. Filming took place in a range of stunning locations in China ranging from the snow-swept landscapes of the north east to the subtropical south.

THE GRANDMASTER is an epic action feature inspired by the life and times of the legendary kung fu master, Ip Man. The story spans the tumultuous Republican era that followed the fall of China’s last dynasty, a time of chaos, division and war that was also the golden age of Chinese martial arts.
