THIS IS ENGLAND
This is England is the story of a troubled boy growing up in 80’s England. Shaun (Thomas Turgoose) finds himself being welcomed into a group of skinheads after feeling lost and alone. The film deals with the pull of subcultures and the notions of family and belonging. Shaun is faced with difficult decisions having to choose between Woody’s (Joseph Gilgun) fun loving nature and Combo’s (Stephen Graham) racist, nationalist views. Highlighting the effects of peer pressure, This is England explores how easy it is to be drawn into negative lifestyles due to the need to feel included. The film received rave reviews and universal acclaim, making it the tenth best reviewed film of the year.
