Good news from Walmington-on-Sea. Principle photography for the upcoming big screen adaptation of Dad’s Army has finished. It took seven weeks but it will be over a year before the film actually hits the silver screen in February 2016!
It does seem that the cast and crew had a fun time up in Yorkshire making the film.
Damian Jones [ the film’s producer ] commented about the filming, “We had a wonderful experience shooting Dad’s Army in Yorkshire. Its stunning locations give the film an epic scale and the people were beyond helpful.”

This feature film re-imagining of the characters from the original comedy series, which remains a cultural heritage, is sure to please all audiences. We cannot wait to see sold-out cinemas enjoy the antics of timeless creations like Captain Mainwaring, Sergeant Wilson and their platoon and discover other characters both familiar and new.”
I’m not sure that he will get his dream of sold out cinemas. That’ll depend on what the first trailer will give us. Fans will, certainly, be split between hatred and love of the new film. I’m going to try and stay neutral at the moment but that may change when the trailer hits in a couple of months time.
It is 1944 and World War II is reaching its climax. The Allies are poised to invade France and finally defeat the German army. But in Walmington-on-Sea morale amongst the Home Guard is low. Their new mission then – to patrol the Dover army base – is a great chance to revive spirits and reputation, that is until glamorous journalist Rose Winters arrives to write about their exploits, setting the pulses racing and putting the local women on red alert. MI5 then discover a radio signal sent direct to Berlin from Walmington-on-Sea. There’s a spy on the loose! The outcome of the war is suddenly at stake, and it falls to our unlikely heroes to stand up and be counted.
